What Is FEMM?

Health literacy starts with your cycle.

FEMM (Fertility Education and Medical Management) is a science-based program that teaches you to read the hormonal patterns behind your cycle. It builds real reproductive health literacy: cycle awareness, hormonal health, and fertility tracking grounded in medicine — so you can recognize what's normal for you, notice when something's off, and bring that information to a provider when concerns arise.

More Than Family Planning

A window into your health.

Your chart doesn't just tell you when you're fertile. Because FEMM tracks hormones across your entire cycle, patterns that would otherwise go unnoticed become visible — and actionable. A trained eye can read what your body is already telling you.

Irregular bleeding

Hormone imbalance worth investigating

Short luteal phase

A common, treatable factor in miscarriage

Unusual mucus patterns

Signs of infection or hormonal disruption

Absent LH surge

Ovulation issues behind trouble conceiving

Cycle-linked pain

Charted evidence pointing toward endometriosis

PMS timing and severity

Hormonal patterns worth understanding and evaluating

FEMM instruction helps women learn to observe, chart, and understand biomarkers. When your charts or symptoms suggest that medical evaluation may be helpful, our Certified FEMM Provider, Marisa Hartnett, Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), can review your chart, help identify when medical evaluation may be appropriate, and guide you toward the right care pathway. Education and cycle-informed guidance, working together.

The Process

Three sessions. One clear picture.

Your instruction unfolds over three dedicated sessions. Together we cover the science of women's hormones, learn to chart your cycle accurately, and interpret your charts side by side. After your three sessions, we stay available by email between visits, with replies within two business days. Your charting doesn't end when the sessions do.

01

Session 1: The science of your hormones (~60–90 min)

We cover how your key hormones drive your cycle and exactly how to observe and chart them. You start charting right away.

02

Session 2: Reading your patterns (~60–90 min)

We interpret your first charts together — learning to recognize healthy patterns and notice when something may need a closer look.

03

Session 3: Applying your chart (~60–90 min)

We apply everything to your specific goal — whether that's avoiding or achieving pregnancy, or simply understanding your cycle more deeply.

Direct email support between sessions, with replies within two business days. After your three sessions we're still here for any question that comes up.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

What's the difference between FEMM and other methods?

FEMM tracks key hormones — estrogen, Progesterone, FSH, and LH — and teaches you to read your cycle as a vital sign of overall health, not just to identify fertile days. It uses simple observations plus low-cost LH test strips, and works for regular and irregular cycles alike.

Do I need to buy any devices?

No monitors or expensive devices — just inexpensive LH urine test strips, which we'll show you how to use. Your charting materials are included in the program.

How long does it take to learn?

The method is taught in three one-on-one sessions, with chart-review support through your first cycles as you build confidence. Most women feel fluent by their second or third chart.

Can FEMM help if my cycles are irregular?

Yes — FEMM is especially useful for irregular cycles, because those patterns often reveal the most about your hormonal health. Charting gives you and your provider a clear picture of what's actually happening.

Can FEMM be used to both avoid and achieve pregnancy?

Yes. You'll learn to apply your charting to your specific goal, and you can switch goals using the same skills — the method works in both directions from the same chart.

What if my chart shows a possible problem?

That's one of FEMM's strengths. Your instructor can help you recognize patterns that may need evaluation, and our Certified FEMM Provider, Marisa Hartnett, FNP-C, can review your chart, help identify when medical evaluation may be appropriate, and guide you toward the right care pathway. Instruction is available online, nationwide; restorative medical care availability depends on state eligibility, licensure, and the appropriate care pathway.
